Tickets on sale now through all Ticketswest locations!

Robin Trower has been heralded as one of the most influential Guitar players to come out of the British Blues Rock scene. Though other names may come to mind, none have the "signature sound and style" of the man who was tagged by the press with the nickname of "The White Hendrix" back in the 70's. Robin was in the audience during a performance by Jimi Hendrix those many years back, and he readily admits that the Experience changed his approach to the guitar. It is obvious to anyone who ever listened to Robin's music that he has taken the ethereal sound that Jimi first introduced to the world, and created his own unique way of expressing himself through the guitar. The result is a unique style of music all his own - NOT an imitation of Jimi at all, and a career of considerable merit.

Robin is known for his incredible talent as a guitar player and his inspirational style of soloing, coaxing sounds from his Strat that seem to emanate from beyond this world. To be among those who have experienced Robin performing live is to be forever changed by this masterful Artist as he takes you along with him on one musical masterpiece after another.

BIG SAM'S FUNKY NATION

Quick and Easy Boys, Lilla D'Mone

BSFN

July 6, 2009

Peter's Room at Roseland Theater - 8pm - 21 and over

FREE SHOW! - Tickets must be obtained in advance from Music Millennium

Recently awarded the Big Easy Music Award for "Best Funk Group of 2008," Big
Sam's Funky Nation is a driving force of urban funk.

The band is led by trombone powerhouse, Big Sam Williams, formerly the
trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who the San Francisco Chronicle
calls "the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz."
Combining his distinctive trombone riffs with a call-and-response MC style,
Big Sam refuses to let the audience sit still. Between the band's solos and
his trombone riffs, Big Sam second-lines (a uniquely New Orleans style of
street-dance) and gets the crowd going.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is not a one man show; the members of the Funky
Nation, a group of well trained and experienced musicians with impressive
credentials of their own, meet the challenges of their funky band leader.
BSFN masterfully combines a rock sensibility with improv-style associated
with jazz and the horn-heavy front section that's the hallmark of big band
funk.

The energy level is high voltage when this band takes the stage, and as
Jambase Online proclaims, "as long as groups like Big Sam's Funky Nation
helm communal happenings like this one the funky fever is bound to spread."

The roots harmony vocals trio the Abyssinians was formed in 1968 by founding members Donald Manning, Bernard Collins and Linford Manning. It was in 1969 with their release “Satta Massagana” recorded on Coxson Dodd’s Studio One label—a Rastafarian hymn based on the Ethiopian Amharic language, that launched them into the ranks of Reggae music greats. “Satta Massagana” became one of reggae’s most popular songs; becoming an anthem that was heard on the radios, in the dancehalls and in the churches of Jamaica. It was also covered by many other International artists’ including Third World. What followed were a string of hits of which included "Declaration of Rights," "Yi Mas Gan." and “Let My Days Be Long”. Early albums were a collection of singles recorded throughout the 1970’s on their own label—Clinch, of which included “Forward On To Zion” (1976) and “ARISE” (1978).

The group separated in 1980, during the separation group co-founder Donald Manning performed internationally under the name The Abyssinians with his brother Carlton Manning (of Carlton & The Shoes) and singer David Morrison. In Jamaica, Bernard Collins performed on stage with longtime associate George Henry.. In 1989, Donald, Bernard and Linford joined together again to record over the next three years. These sessions resulted as the originally released album, “$19.95 + TAX” in 1995 with a very limited number of CD’s printed. Artists Only! Records realized the importance of this album and in 1998 re-titled and re-released this album as “REUNION”. “REUNION” now stands strong as one of The Abyssinians greatest albums.

dead prez AND THE EVIL GENIUS DJ GREEN LANTERN JOIN FORCES FOR POWERFUL NEW LP Pulse of the People hits stores June 23, 2009
Stic.man and M-1, the revolutionary duo who comprise dead prez, combine forces with The Evil Genius DJ Green Lantern for Pulse of The People which is the third installment of their critically acclaimed independent series Turn off the Radio Vol. 3 Dead Prez has been crafting revolutionary but gangsta hip-hop since the late 1990s. Having previously released two major label albums, two volumes of their independent Turn off the Radio series and two solo albums, dead prez’s way of life brand has become an international symbol of substance in hip hop that connects hardcore hip hop heads with the growing movement for liberation, social justice and grassroots empowerment. Highly acclaimed DJ and producer, The Evil Genius DJ Green Lantern, had reached out to dead prez for contributions to his mixtapes in the past and though the respect was always mutual between the camps, the timing was not yet ripe for a full album collaboration. After the success of the Rock the Bells Tour, that both Green and dpz were featured on, they decided to make the time. And that’s exactly what they did. The three hit the studio in February to create Pulse of The People, “an album with all original songs written by dead prez and produced entirely by DJ Green Lantern, presented in a format that reps the streets and what’s happening in the hearts and minds of the People that don’t get represented in the main stream” explains Stic.man.” With dead prez’s respect for the quality of DJ Green Lantern’s work as a producer/tastemaker and Green’s new label Invasion Music Group distributed by The Orchard in full support of the project, the Pulse of the People came to life just in time to bang out for the summer and beyond. Named by MTV as 2008’s Mixtape and Radio DJ of the year, the succinct summation of Green’s accomplishments last year alone doesn’t exactly do justice to the magnitude of them. He put together Nas’ Nigger Mixtape, which was a rare official mixtape from the Queensbridge king that served as a middle finger to all those who opposed his controversial Untitled album. He worked on the Barack Obama: Yes We Can mixtape. He also did Royce Da 5’9’s Bar Exam 2 and Immortal Technique’s 3rd World, which cemented the idea that he doesn’t chase the biggest checks, but works with artists he respects. In addition to going “Green” with this album musically, the politically active dead prez have chosen to have eco-friendly, environmentally responsible packaging surrounding the project. Due in stores June 23, 2009, Pulse Of The People will be released through Green Lantern’s new label, Invasion Music Group / Boss up Inc and features appearances from Styles P, Bun B, K’Naan, Chuck D, and Invasion Music Group’s own Johnny Polygon.

Fri. July 13, 2009

Roseland Theater - 8pm - 21 and Over

Tickets on sale now through all Ticketswest locations!

Born in Sarstedt, Germany, Schenker has had a long career that has seen him rise to become one of the most influential and respected rock guitarists working today. He started playing in his early teens when his brother Rudolf brought home a Flying V guitar, which captured Michael's imagination. Schenker debuted with Scorpions on their debut album Lonesome Crow at age 16 and was lauded at the time for his mature technique.

In 1979, he founded the Michael Schenker Group. In 1982, original vocalist Gary Barden, who sang on the first two studio albums, The Michael Schenker Group and M.S.G. as well as the band's third release (the live album One Night at Budokan) was replaced by Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz).

2005 brought the 25th anniversary of the Michael Schenker Group. Schenker put together a new album of songs called Tales of Rock 'n' Roll to celebrate the anniversary and enlisted singers from each iteration of the band to sing on the album.

Michael hit the road in the UK as Michael Schenker & Friends in 2008. Shows in this tour have received rave reviews and show Michael once again at his best. Early 2008, Michael worked with Gary Barden, Don Airey, Simon Phillips and Neil Murray on a new MSG's album In the Midst of Beauty, which was released in May 2008.

Michael has recently announced that the touring band for the 2008 MSG tour will feature former MSG members, vocalist Gary Barden, Chris Glen on bass and Wayne Findley on guitar & keyboards and Chris Slade (The Firm, AC/DC) on drums.

July 16th, 2009

Psy-Trance innovators Infected Mushroom have become one of the biggest electronic bands on the planet. Twice ranked among the world’s 10 best DJs by the bible of the scene, the U.K.’s DJ Magazine, the Israel-bred, L.A. based duo bring a frenetic rock energy to the form. Their explosive show, featuring guitars, live drums, intensely passionate vocals and an ambitious multimedia backdrop, ranks among the genre’s most unpredictably joyous events. And their recordings continually venture where other electronic acts fear to tread.

Amit “Duvdev” Duvedevani and Erez Eisen have been working for nearly two years on an aggressive new album – their first since 2007’s critically acclaimed Vicious Delicious – for dance-music visionary Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label. Duvdev describes the as-yet untitled record, recorded at Infected Mushroom Laboratory in L.A. and slated for a June 2009 release, as a return to the pair’s metal roots. Guests include singer Jonathan Davis of Korn, who lends his estimable pipes to the track “Smashing the Opponent.”

Oakenfold has worked closely with the band in an A&R capacity. “Paul’s known as a House DJ, so we weren’t sure how he’d feel about our heaviest material,” Duvdev reveals, “but he loved it. He’s really brought a lot of great energy and advice to the table.”

From the Ultra Fest in Miami to the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, from Mexico’s OMIX to Cali’s Coachella, from Brazil’s Ipanema Beach to Melbourne’s Metro Club, Infected Mushroom has averaged about 120 live performances per year. The band will honor that tradition in 2009, starting with a 17-date U.S. tour slated to kick off in Texas in March.

A young Simon Green (for it is he who is the monkey king) refused to be dragged down by the lazy journalistic prose that labeled him 'chillout' and 'downtempo'. Far from it. He upped the stakes, and indeed, even stuck his neck out, moving from his original label Tru Thoughts to Ninja Tune, and set about taking things to the next level.

Cos it's all about the levels with Bonobo. Not in a techy, studio kinda way, but in the levels of involvement with his music. On the surface there are the organic, pastoral atmospheres, the catchy melodies, the elements that caught people from his first album. You can engage with a Bonobo tune in that way if you wish, and will be well rewarded for it. But it's the deeper, slightly hidden levels that you should investigate, for they bring the greatest prize. It's these elements that he explored on 'Dial M For Monkey', as a greater focus on live instruments, the intricacies of rhythm, the darker shades of the soul, and almost a sleight of hand, that meant that you could be in one mood one minute, and the next you would somewhere different.

NAS & DAMIAN "JR GONG" MARLEY

NAS

Beginning with his classic debut, Illmatic (1994), Nas stood tall for years as one of New York City's leading rap voices, outspokenly expressing a righteous, self-empowered swagger that endeared him to critics and hip-hop purists. Whether proclaiming himself "Nasty Nas" or "Nas Escobar" or "Nastradamus" or "God's Son," the self-appointed King of New York battled numerous adversaries for his position atop the epicenter of East Coast rap, none more challenging than Jay-Z, who vied with Nas for the vacated throne left in the wake of the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 assassination. Such headline-worthy drama informed Nas' provocative rhymes, which he delivered with both a masterful flow and a wise perspective over beats by a range of producers: legends like DJ Premier, Large Professor, and Pete Rock; hitmakers like Trackmasters, Timbaland, and will.i.am; street favorites like Swizz Beatz, Megahertz, and the Alchemist; and personal favorites of his own like L.E.S., Salaam Remi, and Chucky Thompson. Nas likewise collaborated with some of the industry's leading video directors, including Hype Williams and Chris Robinson, presenting singles like "Hate Me Now," "One Mic," and "I Can" with dramatic flair. Throughout all the ups (the acclaim, popularity, and success) and downs (the expectations, adversaries, and over-reaching), Nas continually matured as an artist, evolving from a young street disciple to a vain all-knowing sage to a humbled godly teacher. Such growth made every album release an event and prolonged his increasingly storied career to epic proportions.

DAMIAN "JR GONG" MARLEY

Jr. Gong has been honing his skills not so quietly for some time. He made noise early on with the 1996 release of MR. MARLEY, and his major label debut HALFWAY TREE showcased a unique gift for blending hard-hitting reality rhymes and an uncommonly eclectic musicality; with a classic reggae sensibility at its core and run through with streams of hip-hop, r&b and dancehall, the album resonated with urban tastemakers and won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001 (..A Grammy in reggae is good.., he observes. ..But it will be great to see reggae win Album Of The Year. Its not about one man shut off from the rest of the crabs in the barrel..). So while slow-burners like ..It was Written.. and ..Educated Fools.. became club classics, Jr. Gong was laying the groundwork for the tracks that would become WELCOME TO JAMROCK an album that was ultimately several years in the making. Hear the album and you instantly understand it to be the work of a perfectionist; Jr. Gong is not focused on overnight success. Some songs just come. Jamrock was like that, he explains. But other songs take a lot longer. This is street music, and the streets have to feel it.

Somewhere back in the mid-90's a fresh faced Brazilian ex-pat living in the UK decided he was going to put down his harmonica, pick up a sampler, and name himself after a Stephen King novel. The resulting album, Cujo's 'Adventures In Foam' (released on Ninebar records, later reissued on Ninja Tune) signaled Amon Tobin's entry into the world of music. Well actually there's a pre-Cujo project also, but everybody knows not to talk about it... but if you get Amon really drunk... actually no, even then he won't play it for you.

Immediately upon hearing this record, the powers that be at Ninja Tune signed him up to record as Amon Tobin, and he quickly went to work on his debut 'Bricolage'... and things have been rolling along nicely ever since.

The thing about an Amon show is that you could always escape the immense volume by going to the back of the room... in surround there is no escape folks.

Bob Weir already has a secure place in rock history as the Grateful Dead's co-vocalist and what Andrew Clarke (in one of England's leading newspapers, "The Independent") called the genre's "greatest, if most eccentric rhythm guitarist." When you have a modest, anti-promotional personality - and when you spend 30 years next to an icon - it's easy to fall under the radar.

There's a second reason he doesn't always get quite the attention he deserves. Although always a gentleman, Bob Weir can be...contrary. This is the man who, when his muse required that he go study music, chose McCoy Tyner - not exactly a rock rhythm guitarist - as his model. And just as his personality has a discriminating antiauthoritarian streak that leads him down his own road, his composing is just as distinctive and impossible to classify. So that in "Lazy Lightnin'" he combined r & b/disco chords and a time signature in 7. His go-your-own-way point of view is perfectly articulated in John Barlow's lyrics for "Throwin' Stones," which Weir called an "anarchist diatribe." And the dry, offbeat humor of so many of his songs lets you know - his is a nuanced, special voice.

Pete's new record titled "BACK AND FOURTH" will be released on June 23rd, 2009. It was produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes/Cursive). More details to come soon regarding the record and tour. Pete has been writing and recording a respectable amount of new material to be released in 2009. The producers are Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes) and Frank Black (The Pixies). Two new songs have been released, on various fan pages including here on MySpace, that are expected to be included on the new albums; "Shotgun"and "Sans Fear," respectively. "Can't Hear Anyone" is also available on the MySpace player. It was recorded during the Nightcrawler sections and was released as a very rare B Side.

Pete will be appearing on Canadian artist Matthew Good's upcoming album ''Vancouver'' performing backing vocals. The album is expected to be released summer 2009.

In 2008, Pete Yorn recorded and released a new song, entitled "American Blues Vol. 1." A music video was shot for the single, and the mp3 is available free at http://www.peteyorn.com/americanblues

Concerning the song, in a pre-election message, Yorn said "I wrote American Blues Vol. 1. on the 4th of July 2008 after reading the morning paper. It's unlike any song I've ever written. I was moved by how much negativity I was reading about and how even groups were boycotting Independence Day because they were so disgusted with the state of our Nation. I was hoping things would improve...they obviously haven't yet...but I know they will in time."

His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 76, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don't look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of T.V. commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. B.B. King is as alive as the music he plays, and a grateful world can't get enough of him.
